Laila El Baradei, General Counsel, Director of Governance and Compliance

Biography

Laila joined the University in March 2023, following nine years at Plan International, an independent development and humanitarian organisation where she was latterly General Counsel.

Laila qualified as a lawyer in England and Wales, and New York and has over 16 years’ experience in private and in-house legal practice. Laila holds a Bachelor of Laws from LSE, a Master of Laws from Georgetown University and a Master of Science in Development Studies from SOAS.

As our General Counsel and Director of Governance and Compliance, Laila oversees a team which provides professional legal, governance, information management and risk management expertise and advice to the University to support the delivery of strategic and operational objectives. She brings leadership experience and expertise from different sectors to driving good governance and compliance with a broad range of legal and regulatory requirements.

Laila is a member of both the University Executive Team and the Professional Services Leadership Team.
